If you still don’t own enough Bitcoin now you have a second chance to buy more. During this week the French Government will sell Bitcoin for $34M.
The 611 coins were seized from the alleged hackers of GateHub. Only 610 will be sold.
The auction will be conducted on behalf of the French Agency for the Management and Recovery of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AGRASC). The Paris-based auction house Kapandji Morhange will sell the digital asets on March 17.
The site [GitHub] was hacked in June 2019. The hackers took 23M XRP worth $9.2M at that time. There was one more attack later that year. The private data of 1.4M users were compromised.
The hackers are Nassim B and Gabriel KAB (known by the online handles Prosox and Kurois’h). They were charged also for hacking the YouTube channel – Vevo.
The judicial investigation is still pending. This means that the Bitcoin that the Government is going to sell remains the property of the suspects. If the pair are cleared of the charges the Government must give all of the proceeds to the pair. On the other hand if they are found guilty, the proceeds from the sale will go to France.
Who will buy the coins? It can be the next big institution. In 2014 Tim Draper bought nearly 30,000 Bitcoins at just such a sale.
